Things I Can’t Live Without #6: The Rolled Leather Collar

Batman’s collar is made of fine braided leather, like a Bottega Veneta handbag. It’s made by Canine Styles, purveyor of fancy things for dogs. We got the 18” size in brown ($75 online). It fits perfectly for now, though I expect to move up to the 20” size when he’s fully grown.

Batman’s breeder has long recommended rolled leather collars because they don’t break dogs’ guard hair or crush their fur. I’ve stuck to flat collars because I wasn’t able to find a rolled collar I really liked until now. The Canine Styles version is gorgeous and well-crafted, with English leather and brass hardware, and has a nice feel in the hand. It has a “Made in India” stamp inside.

We got this collar in CA as a gift from my sister. I expect to use it for many months, if not years. It’s probably the highest quality dog collar I’ve ever seen.

Other stuff: I put a Quiet Spot tag pouch on the flat part of the collar because I hate the sound of tags clinking. The Quiet Spot is made of neoprene and is sort of ugly. I ordered a slip-on ID tag from Lucky Pet to replace it. I use a Tagnabbit swiveling holder for his Batman name tag. I might replace it with a mini S-carabiner because the Tagnabbit got a lot of negative reviews on Amazon for durability. We’ll see.

I love this collar! Thanks, sis!
